Coagulation balance

The balance between stopping bleeding and avoiding unwanted clots.

What it is

Coagulation balance is the body’s ability to form clots when needed without forming harmful clots in the wrong context.[1,2]

Why it matters

Too little clotting can cause excessive bleeding; too much clotting can lead to thrombosis and other medical problems.[2,1]

What it affects

  • The balance depends on platelets, clotting factors, vessel injury, medicines, inherited traits, acquired disease, and clinical context.[2,1]

Interpretation traps

  • BioConst does not decide whether blood should be thinner or clot faster.[1,2]
