What it is

Why it matters

Increased stiffness may be a sign of fibrosis, but the result still needs clinical interpretation.[1]

Root causes of abnormal values

  • Physical core: Liver stiffness rises when liver tissue becomes less elastic. Fibrosis is a major reason stiffness can rise because scar tissue changes the mechanical properties of the liver.[1]
  • Measurement layer: Elastography estimates a mechanical property, not a full diagnosis. Stiffness should be read with test method, liver-fat context, inflammation context, blood tests, and clinical review.[1]
  • Boundary: BioConst can explain stiffness as a mechanical signal connected to fibrosis workup, but it does not stage fibrosis or interpret a person's elastography number.[1]

What it affects
